Kakiemongama

Imari/Arita ware 1640

Because of the discovery of high quality potter's clay by the Korean potter Lee Sampey, Sakaida Enzai moved to present-day Arita-cho, Nishimatsuura-gun, Saga Prefecture, and produced pottery, white porcelain, and dyed porcelain with his son Kisanemon. In the first half of the seventeenth century, Kisanemon succeeded in firing red-painted porcelain and took the name of Kakinemon.
