Living National Treasure

For over 370 years, Imaemon has been positioned as the highest peak of porcelain in Japan.
Imaizumi Imaemon XIV, who is the current head of Imaemon, was certified as an important intangible cultural property holder (living national treasure) in 2014. Imaemon is developing a technique called “Sumi-hajiki," in which a pattern drawn with ink is dyed and baked, and the ink is burnt out and the pattern is extracted in white.
The quiet and soft white that takes time and effort is impressive.
